Operating Rules and Precautions for PCBA Assembly

Written By:Syspcb Updated: 2026-10-7

PCBA is a manufacturing process in which components are first mounted onto a bare PCB through SMT, and then through DIP insertion. It involves many fine and complex process flows and some sensitive components. If operations are not standardized, it will cause process defects or component damage, affect product quality, and increase processing costs. Therefore, in PCBA assembly processing, relevant operating rules must be followed, and operations must be carried out strictly in accordance with requirements. The following is a summary and introduction for everyone.

Operating Rules for PCBA Assembly:

1. There should be no food or beverages in the PCBA work area. Smoking is prohibited. Do not place unrelated miscellaneous items. Keep the workbench clean and tidy.

2. In PCBA assembly, the surfaces to be soldered must never be touched with bare hands or fingers, because oils secreted by human hands will reduce solderability and easily cause soldering defects.

3. Minimize the handling steps for PCBA and components to prevent hazards. In assembly areas where gloves must be used, dirty gloves will cause contamination, so gloves need to be replaced frequently when necessary.

4. Do not use skin-protecting oils on hands or various detergents containing silicone, as they can cause problems with solderability and the adhesion performance of conformal coatings. Specially formulated detergents for PCBA soldering surfaces are available.

5. EOS/ESD-sensitive components and PCBA must be marked with appropriate EOS/ESD labels to avoid confusion with other components. In addition, to prevent ESD and EOS from endangering sensitive components, all operations, assembly, and testing must be completed on workbenches capable of static control.

6. Periodically inspect EOS/ESD workbenches to confirm that they work properly (anti-static). Various hazards of EOS/ESD components can be caused by incorrect grounding methods or oxides in grounding connection parts. Therefore, special protection should be given to the connectors of the “third wire” grounding terminal.

7. Do not stack PCBA, as this will cause physical damage. Special racks of various types should be provided at the assembly work surface, and they should be placed separately by type.

In PCBA assembly, these operating rules should be strictly followed and operations should be performed correctly to ensure the final quality of the product, reduce component damage, and lower costs.
