PCB price calculation description

The main factors for Print Circuit Board price are: the design of the circuit board, PCB material, the PCB layers, the size of PCB, the number of each production, production process, the smallest line width line distance, the smallest aperture and the number of holes, there are other factors also affect price, such as special process requirements to decide.

China PCB Industry basically has the following several ways to calculate:

1. Calculated price according to the size (applicable for small batch)

According to the layer of PCB and production process, the price per square centimeter is given. Customers only need to change the size of the print circuit board to mm and then multiplied by the unit price per square meter can draw the circuit board to be production unit price. This calculation is very applicable for the circuit boards of ordinary process. This way convenient producer also permit purchaser.

The following is an example: A single panel factory pricing, for example, 2 layer FR4 material, order for 10-20 square meter, the unit price is $75/square meter, total price is 10-20*$75.

2. Calculate elaborating cost of raw material and each process (applicable for large quantities)

● Calculate the cost of raw material

for example, you order a PCB with size of 100 * 100 mm, in order to improve the production efficiency, the PCB factory is likely to arrange 100 * 100 * 4 or 5 large panel to production, which they need to add some spacing and edge to convenient producing, generally, panel spacing is 2 mm, panel edge is 8 to 20 mm. Then calculate how many panels will be used to match the order amount, this is material cost is calculated.

● Calculate the cost of each process

For example, drilling process, firstly see how many holes in one large panel, the min. hole size, slot hole shape etc. then according to each company's average labor, attrition rate, profit margins, marketing expenses to calculate how much cost for one panel. Finally the total cost of panel divided by the quantity of small PCBs in it. This concludes the unit price of PCB drilling.
