Tips of components Placement on PCB design In a finished Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA), Surface Mount Technology (SMT) components are mounted directly onto the PCB. Proper placement of components in the signal chain—such as input sensors, microcontrollers, and outputs—helps maintain optimal performance by reducing trace lengths and minimizing noise, resistance, capacitance, and inductance. The power supply circuit is typically placed first, followed by the implementation of a modified star configuration for routing power traces. In this configuration, each circuit section (e.g., RF, microcontroller, op amp) has its own dedicated trace from the regulator, reducing noise and preventing voltage drops across the circuit. Careful planning is required, especially with two-layer boards, to ensure efficient trace routing and component placement.
