Chinese CCL production capacity increase recent years

Copper clad laminate, the full name of CCL, is the basic material of the electronics industry and the main material for manufacturing printed circuit boards (PCB). Chinese CCL production capacity is very strong, and its production capacity and output are among the top in the world. In 2020, the copper clad laminate industry will be driven by emerging needs such as 5G construction, automotive electronics, and new smart devices for the Internet of Things. Domestic companies have started a number of new capacity construction projects, starting a new wave of production increases.

01 Analysis of the production situation of copper clad laminates
The production capacity of Chinese copper clad laminate industry ranks among the top in the world. According to data disclosed by the China Electronic Materials Industry Association Copper Clad Laminate Materials Branch (CCLA), Chinese copper clad laminate production capacity has shown a year-on-year growth trend.

According to the new capacity statistics of 10 copper clad laminate projects put into production in China in 2020, a preliminary calculation of the total production capacity of various copper clad laminates in China will be 1.034 billion square meters in 2020.
In 2019, Chinese PCB copper clad laminate production was 683 million square meters, an increase of 4.35% year-on-year. It is estimated that the output of PCB copper clad laminates in China in 2020 will be more than 756 million square meters.

According to the production capacity and output of Chinese PCB copper clad laminates, the capacity utilization rate of Chinese PCB copper clad laminates was calculated. After 2013-2014 PCB copper clad laminate capacity utilization rate fluctuated, it began to show a growth trend in 2015, and the growth was very obvious in the next years. In 2019, the capacity utilization rate of China PCB copper clad laminate industry was 74.97%, and the capacity utilization rate of the industry is expected to be 73.11% in 2020.

02 Copper Clad Laminate Production Increasing Plan
Driven by China new infrastructure construction and the 5G application market, the investment of copper clad laminate projects in mainland China has been very active, and a new wave of construction and production of copper clad laminates has been set off.

In 2020, a total of 17 cases of investment in copper-clad laminate projects will start construction, including 12 projects invested by domestic enterprises, with an additional annual production capacity of 118.5 million square meters. 4 Taiwan-funded enterprise projects (including companies invested by Nanya Electronics, Elite Material Co.,Ltd., and ITEQ Electronics), with an additional annual production capacity of 40.5 million square meters, and a Japanese-funded enterprise (Panasonic) project, with an additional annual production capacity of approximately 5 million Square meters. 

In 2020, there will be a total of 5 projects signing contracts for investment in copper-clad laminate construction, and the investors are all domestic-funded enterprises. Among them, there are 2 projects in Anhui Province, and the rest are 1 projects each in Jiangxi, Shanxi and Sichuan. The newly created copper clad laminate projects will release new capacity year by year in 2021-2022 respectively. Among the five projects, the total investment of Goldenmax International Technology Ltd. is the largest, 600 million Yuan, and the project with an annual production capacity of 30 million high-end copper clad laminates.
